Today's Blog Music - The Hype Machine

latest mp3 blog tracks from all over

In this day and age its rare that a rock n roll career lasts more than a few years, much less a decade. Of course there are some acts that have lasted the years through fluctuations of styles and genres of musics ever-changing fads. However, few can even come close to bragging of a career thats spanned three decades, as Sir Paul McCartney can.

The greatest part of it all is that it goes beyond that, since the three decades that we speak of are only from his solo career. Of course you cant forget the thirteen years before that while he toured with a small little group known as The Beatles. You may have heard of them.

Paul began his solo career by releasing his first album, McCartney two weeks before the Beatles released their last album Abbey Road. That first solo album had a warm welcome from fans, and so he went on to release a second album in 1971 called Ram. On this one, he included his new wife Linda McCartney so that they could be on tour together.

After Ram, he started the super group Wings, with wife Linda McCartney, as well as Moody Blues guitarist Denny Laine, and drummer Denny Seiwell. The band started an unexpected tour in 1972 throughout Europe in small venues and various British University Auditoriums.

Wings' first live show was unannounced - and uninvited - and was for students at Nottingham University on February 9, 1972. Paul and Linda, their children, the band and pet dogs all drove north from London in a van, heading for towns picked at random and asking passers-by if their town had a university.

"Our first stop, Ashby-de-la-Zouch, said no," said Paul, "Nottingham said yes."

The price of entry at Wings' first show - at lunchtime in the Nottingham students union hall - was 50p on the door. Wings - Paul, Linda, drummer Denny Seiwell and guitarists Denny Laine and Henry McCullough, received a bag of 50p pieces, which were distributed amongst the band later in the back of the van.

For their first UK tour in 1972, Wings set out with no promoter, no advance or on-the-road publicity, no venues booked and no hotels booked. Hotels were called at the last minute.

From there, McCartney seemed to get the touring bug again and started producing albums and touring with Wings nearly every year to year and a half through to 1979. These included 1973 UK tour, 1975-1976 world tour & 1979 UK tour. The last ever wings concert was at Hammersmith Odeon, England December 29th 1979 and was a charity concert for the people of Kampuchea.

Wings were also due to tour Japan in 1980 but unfortunately Paul was arrested and jailed in Japan for carrying marijuana and the tour was cancelled. This was also the end of wings

In the 1980s McCartney ventured out on his own again, and recorded McCartney II, where, just like on his first self-titled album, he played every instrument on the album himself.

One thing that did change for McCartney during that year was his ambition to tour following the murder of his longtime friend and Beatles band mate John Lennon on Dec. 9th, 1980.

McCartney didnt want to tour following this tragic event and did not until play live again until 1985. In an interview with Playboy magazine in 1984, McCartney revealed that it was because he feared that he would be next to be murdered.

After he appeared at Live Aid in 1985, he got the touring bug and although it wasnt until 1989 he did his 1st live concerts for Fan Club members he kept right on going, recording and touring right into the 90s with two live albums in 1990 and 1993 as well as venturing into classical music that same decade.

In the new Millennium, McCartney fulfilled world tours from 2002 through to 2005 once again proving himself as one of the most prolific musicians on the planet. In 2006 he performed with rapper JayZ and rock band Linkin Park at the Grammy Awards, performing Yesterday in honor of the death of Coretta Scott King.

At age 64 this year, who knows what will come out of Sir McCartney next, but you can be sure that he wont be settling down anytime soon.

Getting legal mp3 music downloads from legal music download sites is a great way to get high quality music files that are completely free of the piracy issues that you have with music downloads from file sharing programs. But legal music download sites are not free of controversy. Most of the popular online services provide music lovers with song tracks that have DRM attached to them. Depending on the particular DRM scheme, there will be limits to what you can do with the music youve purchased. This article will help you gain a better understanding of the DRM controversy and how it affects your legal mp3 music downloads.

What Is DRM?

DRM is the acronym for digital rights management or digital restrictions management. Digital rights management is a system that provides music lovers like you and I to get legal downloads of copyrighted music while ensuring that the owners of those rights control the digital distribution of that work over the internet. DRM also acts as an internet toll booth; it makes sure that the artists and record labels owning those rights get paid for giving access to their music. It sounds pretty reasonable after all, no one has a problem with Maroon 5 or Universal Music getting paid for giving us access to their music. But consumers do have a problem with the limits digital restrictions management places on them.

Why Digital Rights Management Is So Controversial

In actual practice digital rights management has proven to be very controversial. While it protects the financial interests of the copyright owner, it has restricted the rights of music loving public that pays for legal music downloads. Limits can be placed on the number of devices the music can be played on, the number of times you can burn a CD or the number of times you can actually play a download. But the big rub is the lack of ownership rights to the music youve paid for. You simply dont enjoy the same rights to legal mp3 music downloads that you do with a CD you buy from Wal-Mart. However, the tide is starting to turn because online music services like Apple iTunes and Wal-Mart Music Downloads have launched DRM-free music download services. Until DRM-free music becomes more widespread, there are some things you need to be aware of when you download music from legal music sites.

What You Really Need To Know

Before you whip out your credit card to join any legal music download service, you need to know whether or not theres any DRM attached to the music files in their catalog. Not all legal music sites have rights restrictions. Services with music files in MP3 format are free of digital restrictions, but those in AAC or WMA format have some restrictions. The basic scheme allows you to play your streaming music downloads as long as you pay for your music subscription. Music purchased per download can be played after you end your subscription, but as I mentioned earlier in this article, there will be limits to the number of hardware devices the tracks can be played on or how many times you can burn that track on a CD. Ultimately your own preferences will determine how much of an impact these restrictions will have on your legal mp3 music downloads.

[ARTICLES] ADISKATE - MATT IRVING INTERVIEW

You might not know Matt Irving's name but we can guarantee you've seen or indeed own some of his handiwork. With a knack for geometric flow and a natural flair for clean lines, his style is instantly appealing and offers snippets of humour in unexpected places. From his own work under the banner of Delphi, which included some great designs for Element, and more recently one of our shoes of the year in the Milk Blazer SB, he has had his finger in more than a few pies. Right now though, he's taken on a pretty big job handling all the visuals for the embryonic adidas Skate team. From the ads to bongo vans and videos of the Gonz in full flight, Irving is all over it. The trefoil is in good hands...

How and when did you start working on adidas Skateboarding and in what capacity do you work for them?
It all started about a year ago. My friend Brett Critchlow and I were approached separately by adidas to create concepts for their ads. We were both too busy with other projects so we decided to team up and the next thing you know we got the gig and started working on it full time. We handle everything visual for adidas Skateboarding except for the actual product design. So it’s things like ad campaigns, commercials and video projects, catalogs, website design etc. Two weeks ago we were asked to redesign the paint job for a 1970s split window VW bus for adidas Brasil. Our projects can be really random at times.

What’s your overall goal with adidas Skate? Where do you want to take it?
Personally, I just want it to be sincerely focused on skateboarding and not try to be too much of a fashion thing. Just shoes for skateboarders, and if other people seem to like them, then that’s cool too. I like that the team is solid and respected by skateboarders and adidas is being very slow and steady about what shops carry the program. Being a little bit picky isn’t necessarily being exclusive and snobby, it’s about committing to the skate shops that have been around for a long time and supporting the scene.

How do you, in general terms as well as specifically in regards to adidas Skate, feel about non-skate companies entering
the skateboarding world?
It’s all fair game in this day and age. There aren’t any rules about who can and can’t have a skate program. I think that skating has changed a lot since I started doing it. When I was a teenager I probably would have hated it if the bigger companies were getting involved because skating was something to break away from the mainstream. These days skating isn’t what the outcast kids are doing, it’s something that is considered cool. That doesn’t mean that there is a right and a wrong, skating continually eats itself and neglects its roots.

What do you think adidas Skate can offer to skateboarding?
I think they can offer up some really good quality shoes and support some of the best skateboarders to push what is possible on a skateboard. They have a level of quality in materials and production that is much higher than most of what is out there. If they can last longer than an average pair of skate shoes, then that’s good for everyone. I think it’s also really cool that the majority of skate shoes out there have always looked to many of adidas’ classic shoe designs for how they design their shoes. Like the Shelltoe, Stan Smith, Rod Laver, Campus, Gazelle or even just the iconic stripes on a side-panel.

What projects are you working on right now?
I just got back from five days of filming in Berlin with the adidas Europe team. It was a really fun time and super productive. That team is so driven to get out and skate. Right now we’re out in New Zealand to shoot Mark Gonzales with a small film crew and studio. It’ll be a three minute film about Gonz out in New Zealand because he has been living out here with his lady-friend while she gives birth to their child. That happened a few weeks ago and it’s a boy.

What new product can we expect from adidas Skate in the future?
Well there’s a new hi-top style of a shoe called the Roster Mid that will be coming out in January, as well as a vulcanized version of the Campus. The Gazelle was just redesigned with subtle improvements so it’s totally skatable. I really like how that shoe turned out and it’s not going to smash the crap out of your heels because of a lack of padding. Then in the middle of 2008 there will be a redesigned Shelltoe coming back that is modeled after an original late seventies model of the shoe. It’s completely dialed in, looks amazing and is true to the style of Shelltoe everyone used to wear in the early nineties.

How do you juggle working for adidas and your other projects?
Lately there hasn’t been a lot of juggling actually; Brett and I have just been focused on it as much as we can so the foundation is set for this first year. I still manage to do a few outside co-op projects in the evenings but I’m making a conscious effort to dedicate more time to that sort of stuff. It’s been nice to take a break from Delphi projects and personal artwork. I think I overdid it and kind of got burnt out on work. Now it feels fun again and the ideas flow naturally, I can have a fresh approach and know that it’s art or design projects for that very sake. I can live off the adidas work and keep the personal projects focused on new ideas and personal growth.

What other projects are you working on at the moment? What about Delphi?
I did a bunch of stuff for Nike ACG before I started working for adidas. It’s a Delphi/ACG design co-op collection that drops this spring. I just wrapped up a board, sweater and tee for a German skate brand called Hessenmob. Some shirts and a jacket design for a clothing line in Paris called Sixpack and some board graphics for Element. I might actually get to have some of my photography on wine bottles for Francis Ford Coppola’s winery, but we’ll see how that turns out.

What is floating your boat at the moment? Music? Art? Drinking?

Traveling has been consistent this year and that’s always great. Going to new cities, meeting new people and seeing different art and architecture. I think it’s important to rip yourself out of the your everyday life, it’s easy to get complacent. I also get really hyped on seeing friends starting to gain acknowledgement for their artwork. It’s inspiring to see people become successful at their random ideas and eventually to a level where they can live off of it. I have a friend who shapes surfboards under the name Mandala and his impeccable craftsmanship is blowing up. I don’t really even surf, but I certainly appreciate how cool-looking his boards are and the level of quality that he demands out of himself. I like that, it’s rare!

What keeps you motivated to work in this industry? Inspires you?
I grew up skating and it kept me out of trouble. I’ve always loved it and for some reason the love hasn’t gone away. I really only enjoy working for things that I believe in, and skating happens to be one of those things. Any design work I do out of skating is usually in the streetwear realm, I only do that because I like that world too. It’s young and energetic; I just don’t like the ‘trophy-hunter’ aspect of it.

What’s your take on the current state of skateboarding and how do you feel about the constant reference of skateboarding in streetwear, despite the fact the majority of streetwear brands have little, if any, history in skateboarding?
That’s a weird one. I actually think that streetwear is loosely tied to skating because a lot of the people that run the companies tend to be skaters or ex-skaters. There’s an entrepreneurial spirit that is sort of consistent from watching skate companies come up and get successful. In many ways, streetwear of today reminds me of the skate companies in the early 90s and I think that’s why I like it.

I'm sure you've seen the ads: Schoenhut, Dexter, Fisher-Price. These are all brands of toy pianos that are marketed to parents of toddlers.

Many parents are attracted to them because of their look and their size, saying to themselves, "Oh, that would be perfect for my child. It's so cute!"

But have you ever tried a toy piano? While they may be cute and fulfill a need for a certain kind of toy and nursery furniture, they may leave much to be desired in terms sound and providing an instrument for musical development.

Let's see if the advantages of toy pianos outweigh the liabilities.

I've taught children who had toy pianos at first, and there is never any damage done, far from it, if a child plays a toy piano. I think they enjoy it simply because it makes pretty sounds. Anything that interests them in music and piano is good for their intellectual development.

But that is not our point today, but rather to see if there may be an alternative for toddlers that works better in providing a musical instrument adequate for musical development.

First let us enumerate the advantages of toy pianos:

1. They are attractive and this alone may interest the child in music.

2. They are inexpensive and portable

3. They have a standard keyboard setup with groups of two and three black keys.

4. They are mechanical devices, so you don't have to worry about electrical connections, outlets and safety issues.

5. The younger your child, the more appropriate a toy piano may be.

The only real alternative besides a real piano is the electronic music keyboard, such as the inexpensive Casio brands you see for around $99. You see them at Circuit City and electronic appliance outlets as such as that.

Here is a comparison of an electronic keyboard versus a toy piano:

1. Children's electronic music keyboards have real width keys, inch wide, while toy pianos often have "mini" keys to accommodate their tiny hands. It may be better to have the child get used to what real piano keys are like. On the other hand, anything that attracts your child to touch a musical keyboard is a good thing, correct width keys or not.

2. Electronic keyboards make a wide variety of sounds besides the standard piano sound of a toy piano. This may attract your toddler, or may confuse them. More sounds are available on a small keyboard but not usually on a toy piano, although undoubtedly there are products out there called "toy pianos" which make sounds in addition to something piano-like.

3. Toy pianos produce a sound made on what are usually small bell-like surfaces called "tines." It sounds more like chimes than a piano. An electronic keyboard's piano sound is usually very faithful to a real piano sound.

4. Electronic keyboards must be used with batteries to get around the safety issues of outlets, power cables and connections. Toy pianos usually are mechanical devices that require no power, and therefore have the advantage of safety and convenience.

Whatever choice you make, a toy piano can be a great introduction to music, which will eventually produce many benefits such as increased math scores and better handwriting.

Better to get a toy piano at first and then upgrade than not get started at all. Music skills develop at a very young age.

Christmas Volunteer Musician Syndrome!

Left fingers twitching sickly to the proverbial pulse of Jingle Bells, eyes watering from the fog of pine scent and lips stained from countless coats of cherry red lipstick, I demonstrate flawlessly the symptoms of carolitis, commonly known as Christmas Volunteer Musician Syndrome, CVMS.

This ailment, widespread among music teachers and performers late each western calendar year, first attacks the nervous system (enter twitching hands) then progresses into a brief state of anxiety and consistent lateness to all gigs and lessons (double-booking is common).

Once this passes, the afflicted enters the denial phase, (No, I didnt take on too much this year!) but then finally accepts this condition as his/her destiny as a musician and finds ways to cope, such as playing Silent Night in all twelve keys, one after another, for a bit of variety.

Extreme cases cause even the bitterest musicians to become giddy and frivolous, gleefully depositing Decembers hard-earned rent money into the little red kettle because the bells just sounded so pretty.

We see these people wandering through malls playing guitar until their arms are stiff and fingers raw, or strolling on icy streets singing until their voices are frozen, but the puzzling thing is that they are wearing a smile of true contentment. Why do these people sacrifice their time and sanity to play us the same music again and again? They play their carols because they know it will touch someone and make a difference in the world.

These people exhibit the true meaning of Christmas giving through their music. Though they may just be strumming out the silly little tune of All I want for Christmas is my Two Front Teeth, their listener can be magically transported back to the 1949 when dad bought a new radio for the family. The musician is rewarded with approving smiles and nods and knows he has done a good job.

Several years ago a mall in Nelson, BC had inadvertently booked me to play violin when the mall was closed, excepting the grocery store and a Walmart. Playing for nobody isnt gratifying in the first place and I had just gone through a breakup, so I was quite depressed playing jolly carols in the empty space.

I was scraping though my set halfheartedly when a middle-aged woman with a worn face and tired eyes timidly handed me a single red rose. She had been listening to me from behind a cart at the far end of the mall and said my music affected her tremendously and said, you have no idea what this has done for me.

She held back tears as she thanked me several times for changing her life, and then scooted off. I have never had a better audience than I did that quiet December night and am reminded of her each year when I play for the shoppers.

With a three-year-old son and over forty students I cannot volunteer as much of my time as I did in years past. I volunteer when I can and have my student groups perform, but I hope to help by encouraging other musicians and their families to give their music to the community.

Play your flute for your grandmother in the retirement home, but make sure to leave her door open so other residents can hear. Bring your accordion to work on Christmas Eve and serenade your customers and fellow employees with Christmas songs from your home country.

Not a musician? Pick up a kazoo and hum your own unique arrangement of O Come, O Come Emmanuel for the lady down the hall who needs a laugh to cheer her spirits.

Once you have done this, you will also know what its like to have played for the best audience in the world. Be warned that you may love playing so much that you could come down with a merry little strain of hobby musician carolitis. Just keep playing and let it run its course. The world could always use more music!

Merry Christmas!

The use of backing tracks is not only for karaoke singers but for performing artists too. If you are in a band of any sort then this information is for you to help take your act to the next level. Especially if you're performing in some sort of tribute act or cover band.

For years I've been singing and playing in various rock bands and for the greater part have been very well received in front of audiences. Up until not too long ago I would be inclined to pick songs that we performed based on how accurately we could represent that song from a stage. That is, could we cover all the required parts that make a song a hit and do it justice. Every so often a song would come along that required keyboards that were so important in the song that the song was just not worth doing without it. We wouldn't be able to do it justice. So, rather than ruin the song we would put it on the shelf as a song we wished we could do. I didn't see the sense in hiring a full time keyboard player to play in 20% of the songs at best so it made more sense to not do the song.

As the time went on of course I joined a band that was using backing tracks to cover piano parts in songs and even complex backing vocals and instantly realized what those tracks are worth to a performer. That meant that the very difficult backing vocals could be spot on every time and the back up singers could sing easier lines when playing live, giving the back ups a lot of depth. It also meant of course that the music was greatly enhanced. The average audience member doesn't really pick up on a band using tracks. All they realize is this band sounds far better than the band last week but don't really know why. The answer is in the tracks. The lead singer can harmonizie to his own voice more easily than someone else can do it so he should be the one getting recorded. Be careful not to put in too much though or you risk the show becoming a karaoke act.

An important point to consider is what to do if you have technical problems. You need to have a way out. You have to know your show. I've been onstage and had the monitor system fail and not been able to hear the backing tracks and had to rely on the drummer keeping proper time. Using the tracks he has a click track in his left ear he should at least be able to keep time. He gets the click from a pre-recorded track that has a click track on one side and the song sample on the other side. Using a small mixer on stage he can send the music the main mixing console and nobody in the audience will hear the click track.

Using backing tracks are a great way to give your show a very competitive edge and set you apart form the rest of the bands in your circuit, area, etc. I will always use them now and am happy to because all the songs that I put on the shelf in the years gone by can now be done properly.

Market Sectors Offered by Google and Yahoo

"I was there first!" - but I'm better...

(When I look at the differences between Yahoo and Google finance, this is what came to my mind). It seems that the information offered by Google is more advanced. Yahoo was first in offering this service, but Google has added some extra features, like these on market sectors.

Yahoo is using the following sectors: Basic Materials, Conglomerates, Consumer Goods, Financial, Healthcare, Industrial Goods, Services, Technology, Utilities.

Google has added a few sectors which makes the information more detailed (I have not check which source they have used): (the percentages shown are the changes from the last trading period)

The differences are: consumer goods, which have been further classified into cyclical and non-cyclical. Capital goods and transport as well as energy are also added.

I would prefer the Google index. First of all, Transportation is elementary in any economy and offers valuable information to investors.

Somewhere I read that in the early days there were only two indexes: the Dow Jones Industrial and DJ Transportation. Having these separate offers insight in not only the level of change in production but also in changes in the level of distribution.

Energy is currently a popular sector and it is different from utility since the distribution of energy and supply to end-users has been split-up.Likewise some consumer products are more luxury and therefore cyclical.

Google's sectors offer more in-depth information. Whether that will help any private investor to take better investment decisions remains uncertain.

Here is a review of the best house music dj magazines on the planet. Over the past decade a lot of magazines in the electronic music dj arena have gone down, and only the strongest have survived. Recently there has been a major increase in people who are interested in electronic music and the following magazines are blooming with advertising dollars pouring in!

  1. MixMag - has been noted as the best selling dance magazine in the world. Unfortunately they don't have an online version of this magazine but their inclusion of cd's with each release makes it a pretty good subscription to have. For instance, they had an amazing new compilation from Paul Oakenfold in a past issue! The annual subscription runs for 36.00 in the UK and 60.00 in US/Canada so it's a little pricey, but again the inclusion of a cd with each magazine. Get a subscription at www.mixmag.net
  2. DJMag - another UK magazine which is once again getting a revival through all the major music events and releases offers each copy in PDF format for a fraction of the price. The printed price is 3.95 an issue whereas the online PDF download is only 83p or you can get an annual membership for just 10 (38 printed)! Very smart indeed as this just bloat their subscribers! The great thing about this magazine is all the insider info on all the upcoming events several months in advance. The downside is that the layout is not the most professional and it is a little hard on the eyes as to where you should focus on. Nevertheless, you can try a 2 week trial subscription online to see if you like it. Get a subscription at www.djmag.com
  3. BPM Magazine - By far the most successful North American DJ magazine, BPM has taken on whole new world offering their editions free to read online! And what's even better is that the intelligent interface of the magazine allows you to click on all the links to the web sites! Looking at the vast high quality advertising in this magazine it becomes quite apparent why it's online version is free. Probably the most stylish of all the magazines there is quite a lot of variety in the fashion and dj gear reviewed in BPM. If you still want a hard copy of this magazine the rate is only $20/yr for US Subscribers and $40 for Canadian subscribers. Get a subscription at www.bpmmagazine.net
  4. URB Magazine - features a blend of hip hop and electronic music info with DJ culture, technology and studio gear reviews. For US subscribers only they have a $10/6 issue special going on right now or you can get an annual membership (10 issues) for $15 US, $40 for Canadians, and $70 for international orders. Get a subscription at www.urb.com

The term 'cheap drum sets' doesn't necessarily mean that you need to sacrifice quality in order to find your dream kit. Think in terms of value for your money and consider your skill level, needs, and basic requirements when searching for cheap drum sets. You can even search out fantastic deals on drum kits and add a few upgrades, maybe cymbals, or hardware; and then turn around and re-sell the cheap drum set for a great profit.

All top manufacturers such as Ludwig, Pearl, Tama, Gretsch, Yamaha, and many others will have cheap drum sets available and can be found in either new or used kits. Many experienced drummers will even go as far as stating that purchasing a cheap used drum set will often times give you a better sound than a brand new drum set because they may already be tuned and well seasoned.

Searching online at auction sites such as eBay for cheap drum sets will open up a huge variety of options. I personally, have picked up 2 cheap drum sets from sellers on eBay and believe I received great value for my money. One set was a brand new 7 piece kit (don't remember the brand, but it wasn't a top level brand name), and the second was a 5 piece used Pacific (by DW) set. Each one cost between $350 and $400 including shipping and I was very happy with the sound quality of the drums.

With my own experience in mind, it's not always necessary to stick to the well known brand names as you should keep in mind that I use the term 'cheap' in this discussion with reference to the price; not the quality. You don't need to sacrifice quality, tone, and durability just because you may have a limited budget available and therefore have a need to find a cheap drum set.

Many times, cheap drum sets which are not the Top level A+ brands such as the ones mentioned above are priced low because they may include cheap cymbals or hardware (referring to quality here) :-) that are really only included to allow the seller to say that it is a complete set. This is alright really; as you can grab a cheap drum set to get the feel or even learn the basics and then replace the generic hardware and cymbals as your budget allows. The drums themselves may be great quality but are sold cheap due to the poor quality of the cymbals or accessories. This isn't always the case, but it may be something to keep in mind.

One of the main things to look out for when purchasing a cheap drum set is kind of obvious but shouldn't be assumed. Any sign of warp will obviously take from the sound quality. This is usually only a concern when buying a used drum set; mainly because you never really know how the set has been treated or where it was stored.

It is very realistic to be able to find good quality cheap drum sets for sale; you only need to shop around, use common sense and - above all - don't be afraid to ask questions.

Mike Campbell has been a drummer for over 33 years and has purchased many kits over the years. For more information on purchasing cheap drum sets, cymbals and hardware, please visit http://www.buycheapdrumsets.com

Featuring Some Of The Great Guitar Blues Players

In the history of the guitar blues there have been some great players and fortunately many of those great players are still with us today. Whether you prefer smooth guitar blues or whether you like to have your guitar blues smash you in the face there have been players to oblige you and to entertain you for over a century now. Here is a quick look at some guitar blues players that have made an impact.

BB King

BB King has been playing guitar blues for over 60 years and is one of the standards that people use when they talk about guitar blues players. He has recorded with such great bands as U2 and is best known for his trademark hollow body electric guitar he calls Lucille. He was originally called the Beale Street Blues Boy but before his first record came out the record company shortened it to BB and used his real last name of King to create the name BB King. In over 60 years BB King has played his smooth style of blues all over the world.

Eric Clapton

Known simply as "Slow Hand", Eric Clapton is a self taught guitar prodigy who got his start in the famous 1960's hard rock blues band Cream. After Cream disbanded he went on to form such acts as Derrick And The Dominoes but Clapton was always displaying his trademark slow hand smooth guitar blues style somewhere in the world. Recently Cream was reunited for a few shows and it is unknown whether or not they will stay together but even without a reunited Cream Eric Clapton has still left his mark as one of the greatest guitar blues players ever.

Robert Johnson

It is difficult to talk about guitar blues players without talking about the man that greats such as Jimi Hendrix and Muddy Waters cite as one of their prime influences. Robert Johnson was born in 1911 and died in 1938 but in between there he recorded and released at least a half dozen or more records that survive today as an example of the talent and vision that Johnson had. He lived the blues and, by some accounts, died because of the blues and Robert Johnson is the place where most blues is said to have come from.

Jimi Hendrix

For some reason Jimi Hendrix is never given his due as the master guitar blues player that he was because many people cannot see past his use of sound and energy on the electric guitar. But everything Jimi did was based in the blues and many of his more popular songs are simply blues songs done Jimi's way and there is nothing wrong with that.

Concert tickets are big business and sometimes hard to come by. There are many ways of ensuring you get to see your favourite artists. Here are 10 Tips to consider when looking to purchase concert tickets.

1) Find out in advance where the band or artist is going on tour. Check the bands website for this information.

2) Search the main website to see if tickets are still available. One will be designated the main vendore for concert tickets, so check with these.

3) Join the bands fan club if they have one ( most do ). They often make tickets available to members first.

4) Have a look on ebay to see if the tickets you are after are advertised for sale

5) If buying from someone on ebay check their seller feedback/reputation first. Make sure you know how and when you will receive your tickets following payment.

6) Search concert ticket broker websites

7) When purchasing tickets on the internet, make sure the connection is secure and verified when entering credit card details.

8) Beware of fraudulent concert ticket sellers. Try to find a marketplace that offers a guarantee on transactions for peace of mind.

9) Avoid scalpers. These are the ticket touts that will try to sell you tickets on the street. They are best avoided.

10) Have a look at stubhub.com and tickets.com as possible alternatives to the more well known ticketmaster.com

Okay, so remember, buy early, watch out for fraud and try to get the best price possible. Look at all the different online concert ticket vendors and compare prices. Try to use a marketplace that offers some guarantee on transactions undertaken and avoid desperate last minute buying from ticket- touts. Most of all, enjoy the concert!

[NEWSFLASH] HAROLD HUNTER x ZOO YORK

On May 17th the 2nd Annual Harold Hunter Day brought together NYC’s skateboarding community for a positive day of shredding in honor of the late, great Harold Hunter.  More than five-hundred skaters and spectators swarmed the Manhattan Bridge Skatepark for a heated six-hour session with beats provided by New York’s finest, Pete Rock.  Afterward, the masses flocked to KCDC Skateshop where, in true Harold form, the party bumped late into the night.

In celebration of this noteworthy occasion and to keep Harold’s spirit strong, the non-profit Harold Hunter Foundation has teamed up with The Zoo York Institute to release a limited edition HH Day II commemorative deck and t-shirt featuring Harold pics by long-time friend and acclaimed photographer, Giovanni Reda.

Both items are now available only at select New York shops including Rival, Autumn, Everything Must Go, Richmond Hood Company, Blades, DQM, and Homage.  Additionally, a special bundled kit including a deck, t-shirt and signed copy of Reda’s “Harold Hunter: The Book” is available exclusively at KCDC.  Proceeds from the sale of all HH Day II commemorative gear will be donated to the Harold Hunter Foundation which will use the funds to send six underprivileged NYC kids to Camp Woodward this summer.

A complete event wrap-up is available at hhday.blogspot.com, and a Harold Hunter Day II podcast shot and produced by RB Umali will release in late June.
